Plan de Corones
Plan de Corones is a 2275 m high mountain in the Alps. This imposing mountain massif has the shape of a cap and is located in the vicinity of Brunico in the south of the Puster Valley. The highest point at Plan de Corones, Spitzhörnle, is of volcanic origin. From here you enjoy a wonderful view of the entire mountains in the surroundings, from the Dolomites to the Alps in Val Venosta.
Plan de Corones is the name of a vast holiday region with the following villages: Brunico, Riscone, S. Vigilio di Marebbe, Valdaora, S. Lorenzo di Sebato, San Martino in Badia, Rasun, Anterselva, Chienes, Falzes, Gais, Villa Ottone, Valle di Casies, Terento, Monguelfo and Tesido.
These idyllic mountain villages are surrounded by splendid landscape and are ideal for recreational holidays where you can get an insight into local traditions and customs, and where you can also admire special artistic treasures. Numerous churches with precious paintings await you, museums where you can get acquainted with the local history, memorials of heroes from the region and several castles and fortresses, which bring visitors back to the past.
In the Plan de Corones holiday region you'll find the Fanes-Senes-Braies Nature Park, the Puez-Odle and Vedrette di Ries-Aurina Nature Parks, incredible natural scenery directly at your doorstep. The region offers wonderful hikes and the opportunity to discover unspoiled nature with protected animals and plants.
During the winter season Plan de Corones is one of the best accessible ski resorts in Europe with more than 100 kilometres of slopes and 31 lift facilities. Plan de Corones is part of the Dolomiti Superski ski carousel where you can enjoy twelve ski regions with only one ski pass. 180 km of cross-country tracks await cross-country skiers. Snowboarders will be amazed by the biggest snowpark in South Tyrol at Plan de Corones. In the region you'll also find numerous toboggan runs, ski tour paths and snow-shoe hiking trails.
The Plan de Corones holiday region is a very attractive holiday destination also in summer. Numerous and varied mountain hikes with various levels of difficulty await you. If you love cycling, you can choose from 1163 km of cycling paths and mountain-bike routes. At the bottom of Plan de Corones you'll find the biggest Nordic walking park in Europe, and in the sports park in Riscone you can play golf at the Val Pusteria Golf Club or swim in the Cron4 adventure pool.
