Plata, in the Passiria valley
The little village of Plata situated near the Tessa Group Nature Park forms part of Passiria valley. It is 30 km from here to the spa town of Merano and only 10 km to the ski slopes.
Plata is an idyllic little spot in the midst of simply fairy-tale surroundings: here you will find fresh, healthy air, dense centuries-old forests, crystal clear mountain lakes and nature in an intact and original state.
Every year in autumn the traditional Passiria Return of the Cattle is celebrated with big whip-cracking displays and typical regional dishes.
Not far from this idyllic village are the Stùlles Waterfalls which are among the highest waterfalls in Europe. Another interesting sight is the moulins on the glacier near the Untermagdfeld farm: these unusual natural phenomena are 15 holes caused by glacier erosion, measuring on average 2.5 m in diameter and 3 m in depth. The largest glacier moulin of them all is 8m deep and 7 m wide.
