Andriano - a little village in Oltradige
Andriano is one of the smallest villages in South Tyrol's South and lies 285 m above sea level below the distinctive Monte Macaion. In the midst of orhcards and vineyards you will find quiet, idyllic places where you can have a re-invigorating holiday. Both the Mediterranean climate and the hospitality of the people make a substantial contribution to the pleasant atmosphere in the village.
In summer the wonderful open-air swimming pool, which is located in the peace of the forest edge, is very popular. In the village you can also find the oldest wine cellars in South Tyrol, which were founded in 1893 and today belong to the Terlano wine-growers' cooperative. Andriano may also be known to some people as the home of the folk music stars, Vincent & Fernando.
Festenstein Castle towers over Andriano. It is a ruined medieval building and was mentioned in documents for the first time in 1220. The red porphyry of the rock face on which the castle stands is typical of the region. The rock has been mined since 1917.
Another attraction is Wolfsthurn Castle, which is located rather high up in a forest of chestnut trees and has used as a residence until today. The parish church of St. Valentine with its frescoes from the 13th century is definitely also worth a visit.
There are also many opportunities for leisure activities all around the village. The well developed cycle tracks invite you to go on extended cycling tours and you can discover the wonderful natural world of Val d'Adige on carefully signposted hiking trails. A popular sports event is the annual cycling race on 1st May.
