Renon High Plateau
The high-plateau of Renon is located approximately 16 km from the city of Bolzano at 1000 m above sea level between the Isarco and Talfera Rivers. Thanks to the mild climate in winter and the fresh air in summer, Renon has been a popular summer destination since the beginning of the 20th century. At this time, a railway line was constructed in order to transport guests to the high plateau.
Renon is a highly valued excursion destination amongst families with children. It offers numerous easy hiking paths through flat and hilly landscapes. The entire landscape still amazes also experienced hikers. This natural balcony offers a wonderful view of one of the most beautiful sides of the Dolomites, a renowned nature heritage site.
One of the most important nature attractions are the pyramids in Renon: unique geological formations with rock blocks on the top. The pyramids developed after erosion due to weather influences like water and wind. This phenomenon can be admired rather often in the Province of Bolzano and in some areas of the Province of Trento. It is one of the fascinating examples of the slow and progressive development of nature.
The first part of the pyramids is visible once you reach the high plateau with the modern Renon cable cars. The cable car facility was opened in 2009 and transports guests directly to the peak within only 12 minutes. The landscape that can be admired from the cable cars gets further and further away from the city until finally reaching the green landscapes of the high plateau.
