Corvara in Passiria
Corvara in Alta Val Passiria lies at the edge of the Tessa Group Nature Park and is therefore an ideal departure point for various lovely excursions into this diverse nature reserve with its protected world of animals and plants.
From Corvara, you can visit the Kummersee, which was once a lake, on the former banks of which you can go walking. The lake, which lies at an altitude of 1,340 m, was dammed up by a landslide in 1401. Before the natural dam was finally destroyed in 1774 by the force of the water, it had already collapsed several times and had caused serious destruction, from whence its name. Nowadays a lovely hiking trail leads around this former lake. During the two and a half hours of the "Kummersee Round Path" you can find detailed information on how such lakes are formed and about their surroundings at eight stations along the former bank.
Above this tradition-conscious village you come to the Monteneve mining area, once one of the highest mines in Europe, which belongs partly to Passiria valley and partly to Val Ridanna.
